The art looks truly outstanding. Is your plan to do art for single discs (the concept rear cover would indicate such) doubles or quads? Hopefully singles or doubles. (don't like quads myself although, this is, of course, a personal preference) Can't wait to see the finished product and appreciate the work that you will put in, after taking on this task for the folks that have obtained this excellent set of discs from Dime / Jungleland, or wherever. Cheers !
I was planning on single (as this is my preference), I considered doing double but the fact there is 11 in the set means it won't be nice and even.
Although once the layouts are done it would be easy to convert to doubles, I like to give people options so in the end there might be single and double covers.
I still collecting resources and I have to work out if I enough photos of the same style to make all 11 covers.
I agree with you sibko. I think that this set deserves singles - although I realise that this will be more work for you! Really looking forward to them. You're in Australia right ? Greetings from the UK. I have to admit that I've got only a casual interest in REM, but looking around your site kinda makes me wish I was a bigger fan so that I could house some discs within your artwork! Undoubtably some of the finest I've come across on the 'net. Kudo's to you and keep up the good work !
I should be able to get enough photos for the covers. I scanned a few for the CD booklet, got some more from the D&D DVD interface as well as a couple of screen caps from the footage on the DVD.
Amy has supplied me with one pictures she took on the tour which i can use on the Inlays. She did have one concern though
"the only thing I'm not crazy about is the "swirly" graphic you placed in there...it seems out of place, especially the one swirling around his crotch on the back cover with my picture"
I wanted to used the swirls because the covers are abit lifeless and I wanted to add something to give them a point of difference to the original devils and dust cover.
At this point I'll probably keep them but i might tone them back abit and make them a bit more subtle. I've done a new cover for vol4 and have toned the swirls back a little. Ill put that image up soon
I like the swirls and think they should stay. What I'm not quite comfortable with is using numbering of 01,02,03.... I think it would look and feel more right as 1,2,3.... I think the look and feel of the covers, as well as the material, is more organic, loose and natural while using a leading zero seems more artificial and rigid.
Looking great but i wouldn't have any hole in the cd labels as this makes it hard to centre them when you print the labels on fullface discs/labels thanks

Singles, duals (or a combo) would best suit this set of discs IMHO. Don't we only use triples or quads when we've no other choice (3 CD concerts etc) ?. Cover art looks like it's gonna be awesome in whichever form

Its ok I only do that for preview purposes. The label will be a full flat image with lots of bleed because I know how hard they are to print, so the holes wont be in the final image you download.

What do other people think about the swirls?

But you're the designer, I'm just the fanboy.
Carry on the excellent work.
